Cabinets are the most expensive thing in your kitchen and the hardest thing to change later. They are also the part of the kitchen most affected by living in Southwest Florida, which is something a lot of homeowners find out the hard way.
We build with Fabuwood. Before explaining why, it is worth being clear about what this climate actually does to a kitchen, because that is what should drive the decision.
What humidity and salt air do to cabinetry
Three things, mostly.
Moisture gets into the box. Cabinet boxes made from particleboard or low-grade composite swell when they take on humidity, and they do not recover. You see it first at the sink base and along the toe kick, where the material puffs and the edge banding lifts. Once a box has swelled, there is no fixing it.
Finishes move. Painted doors expand and contract with humidity swings. On a poorly finished door, that shows up as hairline cracks at the joints where the stile meets the rail. It is most visible on white and light paints, which is what most of Florida wants.
Hardware corrodes. Hinges and drawer slides in a coastal home take more abuse than they would inland, especially in a house that sits closed and unconditioned for part of the year.
That last point matters more here than people expect. A seasonal home in Bonita Springs may sit for months with the air running at a holding temperature and nobody opening a window. Cabinetry that is fine in a year-round house can struggle in that cycle.
What to actually ask about
If you are comparing cabinet quotes, these are the questions that separate them. Price alone will not tell you.
- What is the box made of? Ask specifically. Plywood construction costs more than particleboard and it is the difference that matters most in this climate. Do not accept "solid wood" as an answer, because that usually describes the doors and frames, not the box.
- How are the doors finished? A properly finished painted door is sealed on all surfaces, including the back and the inside of the panel. Shortcuts here are invisible on delivery and obvious in year three.
- What hinges and slides come with it? Soft-close, full-extension slides and adjustable concealed hinges should be standard, not an upgrade line.
- How is the interior finished? Cabinet interiors that are finished rather than raw hold up better against humidity and clean up better over time.
- What is the warranty, and who honors it? A warranty is only useful if the company will still be there and your builder will handle the claim.
Any cabinet line worth installing in Florida has good answers to all five.

What we do not do
We do not sell cabinets as a product line with a markup and call that design. The cabinetry gets specified as part of the kitchen: the layout, how you actually cook, where the light comes from, how much of the run should be drawers, whether it goes to the ceiling.
We also do not upsell you into a finish that will not hold in this climate because it photographs well. If something is a maintenance commitment, we say so before it goes in.
